Pen Platings

Plating durability list to help you make your choice of platings

Pen Plating

There are several types of plating materials available for the hardware (metal parts) of your pen. How long will the plating last? Well, that depends on the user and how the pen is treated (or mistreated). Someone who uses their pen for many hours every day versus just a few hours per week will experience different wearability factors.

The overall wear on the plating is influenced by several factors, including the environment in which it is used, the body oils of the owner, finger pressure on the nib and barrels, and more. Some customers prefer the best available quality, while others seek more economical options.

Please note that not all listed platings may be available for each pen style at Turnpenswrite. My suppliers are continually adding new plating options, and I may discontinue some platings and introduce new ones occasionally.

Components

The components of the pen include the nib, center bands, trim rings, clip, cap finial, and more. These materials exhibit different durability levels or ‘wear characteristics’. I’ve listed them from ‘less durable’ to ‘most durable’ based on the manufacturer’s information. This information is provided for your reference and consideration.

Please note, Turnpenswrite does not guarantee that any of the platings will last forever. Various circumstances can affect the finishes.
